Message from Dr. Pournelle

Dr. Pournelle asked to have this posted:

Monday Dec. 25, I had a stroke.   I think my head is all right, and I am recovering.  Alas I used to be a touch typist and I am now learning to be a two finger typist.  At present I am a one finger typist.  Call it 1.1 finger, but after today’s therapy , maybe 1.2; I am learning. I just made the Spock sign.

Started a ramble to post, but it is easy with Windows 8 to have what you write vanish.  I will keep trying.

Please someone post in my blog that I am here and learning.  The Surface works but learning to use it and Outlook 13
after a stroke is hard enough and I am clumsy. But I am trying and think I will recover. But it takes time.

But I am coming back.

One last thing.. When you are loved and missed by all of us, get back to health and start doing what you do best… making sense of the world and educating us. Well miss you, and the silence is deafening.

  5. Dr Lee says:

Dear Dr. You have always fought well and won. Get well soon.
This world needs a sane mature circumstective man like you.
Live life worth the living, write until the soul is purged.

    WE ALL MISS YOU…..

  6. Didius says:

Good to hear you are recovering. Keep fighting the good fight.

  7. David Bullis says:

Decimal finger figures in regards to typing. Your slyness, at least, is intact. Fortiter, Fedeliter,Feliciter.

  8. marco barsotti says:

I am immensely pleased to hear that you are doing better.

  10. Chuck Kuhlman says:

Oh, and while Surface pretty much requires Windows 8. the ‘old’ TabletPC form factor is alive and well. Windows 7 Pro with adaptive addons remains a very power platform.

  11. Chuck Kuhlman says:

Very good to hear Dr. Pournelle!! all the best in the coming New Year!

  12. Keith Nash says:

  13. Dennis Kinniburgh says:

Jerry Pournelle and perseverance are synonymous. A speedy recovery to you, your words of wisdom are highly regarded.

  14. Joe Zeff says:

Jerry, I think it’s wonderful that you’re able to type, even with 1.1 or 1.2 fingers, especially so soon after the stroke. Lord knows, it’s hard to be patient; keep on with your therapy and you’ll be back on top of things sooner than you’d think. I know, because I’ve been through therapy after a broken arm (much less of a problem, of course) and after just a few weeks I could see my strength and mobility coming back, almost daily. I know that everybody at LASFS is concerned about you and hoping to see you back there Real Soon Now.

  15. A.B Prosper says:

    Speedy Recoveries to you.

  16. Gerald McLoughlin says:

Best of wishes and a speedy recovery! I have always been a one finger typist so you are already better than me!

  17. Jim Watson says:

    Dr Pournelle,

    You are doing great.
You have beaten that brain before, you can do it again.

  18. Bob Lawrence says:

A one finger typist writing something worth reading beats a ten finger typist with nothing any day. Glad you’re feeling better. Hang in there!

  19. bob bailey says:

    YES!!

  20. David C. Crowley says:

We’ll all be waiting for further postings from you on your progress, Dr. Pournelle. Just get yourself better and use any finger system that works for you – two to ten.
