Chaos Manor. There's actually more to it, but these pictures are of the Great Hall and my office area. The living quarters of the house are under Roberta's control, and some parts aren't chaotic at all. Alas, the chaos has invaded her office as well, but I don't have any pictures of that... These are thumbnails. Click on the picture to see a larger one.

There are two sets here. For the first, scroll. The second set is below.

First a picture of Chaos Manor:

Eric Pobirs, Chaos Manor intern, working at Larry Niven's work station in the Great Hall.

Niven, getting ready to go hiking with me. This is about the same view as before. It's taken from my smaller office off the Great Hall.

Artist Associate David Em seated in my office, with my cluttered desk in the foreground. That's a Roman gladius hispanica on the wall behind him. You can't quite see the Macintosh that's just in front of him. The printers, an Apple Laserwriter and an ancient HP Laserjet III, are behind him. So is an Osborne Computing patch that says "Osborne: Teaching Others To Be Humble." Ah well. (Since then the printer has been upgraded: we have a Laserjet 4000 now. And love it.)

The window to David's left looks out on the street. I used to have my chair there, and work where the Mac is now. If this all looks cluttered, you're right. It's crowded in here.

Part of the Great Hall. The door in the center leads to the monster infested Cable Room. The door to the right leads to a crowded store room. Don't ask.

Alex and me in a pensive mood. Heaven knows what discovery we were just making.

Alex Sitting in my chair. That's Cyrus the Cyrix. He's facing Princess the Compaq, which is the machine I'm doing this on.

A long view of the Great Hall. We've just done a big purge, and it's actually cleaner now. I'll get a picture before that changes again.

Karen Thomas, Public Relations expert, on a visit representing Olympus. That's Eric in the background.

Tough duty: Roberta relaxing at Pacific Beach, not too far from where we have an apartment I retreat to when I want to do serious fiction writing. I don't even know the phone number and address; that way I can't tell anyone.

www.byte.com editor Paul Schindler standing by my desk. That's Princess to his right. Parsifal is behind him.

Another view of where I work.

The boxes behind Paul contained the Telos. Paul was down to set things up so I could do the Techweb broadcasts.

Another shot of Princess. Cameras hang on straps behind Paul. It's a mess, I fear.

p5240006.jpg (59584 bytes)

The boxes got moved but not far. That's David Em standing and Eric Pobirs seated at one of the work benches in the Great Hall. behind them to the left is the Cable Room and to the right the Store Room. And those are REALLY in a mess, I fear.

Hilltop after a hike. Larry Niven, left, and Tor SF Editor Bob Gleason. Gleason has edited most of our collaborations starting with Mote In God's Eye and Lucifer's Hammer. We've tended to follow him from publishing house to publishing house.

Niven, Gleason, and Pournelle at the top of our hill. It's about 2 miles up there from here.

With Sasha the Husky. Gleason calls him the Wolf Dog. When Gleason stays here, Sasha likes to sleep in Gleason's room.
