Both sites, www.jerrypournelle.com and Chaos Manor Reviews are operated on the "public radio" model: they stay open if enough subscribe. So far there have been enough, and Thanks! But: it is a LOT of work, and it is getting to the point when I will need more subscribers so that I can pay one of the Associates to do some of the work. That has become particularly true now that we have two sites to maintain.

A subscription to either site is a subscription to both.

Transaction Security

When you click the Checkout button on this page, your web browser will display a secure (SSL) payment page for PayPal. About PayPal

If you don't subscribe to Paypal, you can sign up. When you sign up through me I get a bonus. Meanwhile, Paypal does have a means for transfer of money to my account whether you subscribe to Paypal or not. I have been using it for years now without problems. I note that some subscribers have been giving subscriptions as gifts, which is a great way to bring in new subscribers. Thanks!

Privacy Statement

I NEVER sell, give, or loan my subscription list to ANYONE.

What You Get for Subscribing

Subscribers now get to see the weekly column immediately after it is written.

For the moment, everyone else gets to see it then too. That may change in future. If we have any content in the password protected area of Chaos Manor Reviews, subscribers will automatically get email giving user name and password. I also send Chaos Manor Warnings to subscribers from time to time as I think they are needed. Subscribers get reports with pictures, sometimes exclusive, more often merely earlier, but sometimes a lot earlier. Other stuff as I develop it; frankly that depends on how many subscriptions I get, and how much time I have. Subscriptions give me more time to muck about, of course. (Or will if I ever get caught up on book contracts... just at the moment, Inferno 2 and Mamelukes, the next book in the Janissaries series are eating all my time.)

The only thing I promise for any money you send is that I'll record your email address (BE SURE to include it), and if this thing actually goes anywhere, you'll get first notice and whatever else I think electronically appropriate. Subscribers will get passwords to any closed areas on all the web sites including Chaos Manor Reviews.

I said I would keep this experiment going through "next December". That was almost ten years ago. I'll keep it going until December 2008 at least (health permitting). All money sent becomes the property of J.E. Pournelle and Associates, none will be returned, and we promise nothing in return beyond continuation of this web page with reasonable updates at least weekly and daily when possible. It appears that something may come of this, astonishingly; and it is an interesting way to keep score. Meanwhile, we are looking for a source of revenue that doesn't drive you batty with banner ads. You will note there are NO BANNER ADS. There are unobtrusive Google Ads in Chaos Manor Reviews. They don't bring in enough revenue to continue if they are a problem, but so far they don't seem to have annoyed anyone enough to cause mail about them.

I sometimes send mailings to the subscriber list. How useful they are is up to the subscriber. I send them from time to time. Lately they have mostly been virus and worm warnings, and many subscribers think they have been timely and useful. I also send notices of special events and stuff.

Renewals

We suggest annual renewals. I may remove you from the subscription list at some time after two years, but long before that I will bug you with gentle but increasingly more frequent nags. That will be the only kind of solicitation you will ever get.

About Byte

Byte Magazine no longer publishes my column. I will continue the column, publishing it in Chaos Manor Reviews as I did in the months when BYTE didn't exist. That is, I will if I have enough subscriptions to make that worth while.

Now that BYTE is not paying me for the columns, this becomes more important. I continue to write for Nikkei Business Publications, and other overseas publishers.

Subscribing by Mail

Make sure to including your email address if you send me a check by mail. I prefer that you write your email address on the check. Send a check for $20.00 (regular subscription) or $36.00 (Patron subscription) to:

Dr. Jerry E. Pournelle
Chaos Manor / PMB 70
4804 Laurel Canyon Blvd.
Valley Village, CA 91607

After you sent the money, SEND ME YOUR Subscriber NAME and Subscriber EMAIL ADDRESS BY EMAIL. The subject should be "I PAID" or "RJsubscribe" (if you used RJP's credit card acceptance page) and you should describe the payment method in the email. It is better if the email "I Paid" comes with the return address you want me to use on the mailing list!! However, if the subscription address is different from the return address on the email notifying me, please be sure to specify the subscription address.
